Lately the OnePlus 7 leaks have been flying about with regularity, some from OnePlus. Today OnePlus have announced when they plan on showing off the phone in its entirety to the world.
After the announcement was teased by CEO Pete Lau last week today OnePlus have revealed that they will be announcing the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro in New York on May 14. Simultaneously there will be launch events in London and Bangalore – two other big markets for them. Those who are unable to attend the launch events will still be able to watch the announcement “live via our Launch page, our YouTube channel and our social media channels.”
Community is at the heart of everything that we do. By hosting events across the world, we hope that as many people as possible can join us for the launch of this exciting new chapter for OnePlus.OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau
Accompanying the announcement of the launch date is a video which does not reveal much at all, as you would expect. Lucky for those seeking more details there is always a purveyor of such detail. Just the other day we learned more detail on the OnePlus 7 and Pro’s specs.
We learnt that the OnePlus 7 Pro will arrive with a 6.7 inch 3120 x 1440P display which will be 19.5:9 ratio and have a refresh rate of 90Hz – that’s gaming phone display specs. It will sport a Snapdragon 855 processor and be available in 6GB+128GB and 8/12GB+256GB varieties with the memory being UFS 3.0.
The in-display fingerprint sensor will once again make an appearance and be available in Nebula Blue, Mirror Grey and Almond (really? brown?) colours. The battery will be a whopping 4000mAh with Warp 30W charging. Don’t forget about it’s 5G capabilities- it is unclear at this stage whether 5G will be standard in the Pro or another variant.
The camera on the OnePlus 7 Pro will consist of a 48MP (f/1.6 OIS+EIS), an 8MP (3x Zoom f/2.4), and a 16MP (117° f/2.2). The front facing camera will also be a pop-up camera, the first from a mainstream phone. This is the first time OnePlus have included a triple rear camera and with their step up in price point for the Pro version to be around the true flagship range we hope that their camera quality steps up into the upper tier as well.
The OnePlus 7 on the other hand will only sport a 6.4 inch 1080P display with standard refresh rate. It will still be available with a Snapdragon 855 and in 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB varieties but will only have a 3700mAh battery with 20W Warp charging. The rear camera will be a dual camera setup once again with a 48MP f/1.7 main lens and a 5MP depth camera as the second lens.
There is only a few weeks until the announcement and you can be sure that we will see more details in the coming days and weeks until then. For me though, if the OnePlus 7 Pro is able to lift its camera quality to that close to the Galaxy S10+ and the P30 Pro it is a no-brainer.
I will be in New York at the time of the announcement and if I can move my Statue pedestal tickets timing I will be attending the event. Stay tuned for a hands on video from the event and all the juicy details first-hand.
