Huawei is running a developer conference in Dongguan City, China from August 9-11 – and there’s an interesting keynote presentation on the schedule for the first day – a presentation of EMUI 10, which we know is based on Android Q.
There’s a few interesting things around this.
Firstly, yes you are indeed correct – Android Q hasn’t been released yet. It may have been released by August 9, though. Android Pie was revealed to the world on August 6 2018 (Oreo was August 21 2017). We don’t know when Android Q will go official, with developer previews still rolling out.
Secondly, even if Android 10.0 Quince is announced a couple of days before that’s a very fast integration. Of course, it’s not necessarily a release. Huawei might simply be showing us how they’ll adopt the new features in the OS and present them to EMUI users.
It’s also possible Huawei is going to punk us all, and EMUI 10 might be based on the company’s Hongmeng OS with everyone getting a free upgrade away from Google-land. That would be a wild ride, but it’s far less likely.
Facing down the possible end of a 90-day stay on its Entity List ban on August 19, it wouldn’t surprise us to find Google engineers working to get Android Q into AOSP in time, and Huawei engineers feverishly working on finishing its implementation – the company is currently one of Google’s closest hardware partners.
