Google Maps has info on bike sharing systems in 24 more cities across the world. The new update allows users to see the number of bikes in each station in real-time. This feature has been in testing in New York City for the past year, and is rolling out to 16 more countries.
Maps already surfaces local bike share locations like Brisbane’s City Cycle and Melbourne Bike Share bicycle docks. The new system would allow users to see exactly how many bikes are available at each stop. Additionally, users could see if there’s a dock available to drop off a bike.
To use the new function, just search for a bike sharing system and nearby stations will show up with their location, and the number of bikes available. Maps will show bike sharing information on both Android and iOS devices.
Bike sharing information is now available in Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Chicago, Dublin, Hamburg, Helsinki, Kaohsiung, London, Los Angeles, Lyon, Madrid, Mexico City, Montreal, New Taipei City, New York City, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco Bay Area, São Paulo, Toronto, Vienna, Warsaw and Zurich. More cities will become available as Ito World receives data from them.
