It seems that OPPO are pushing the Reno barrel as far as they can and after releasing the mid-range Reno2 smartphones in India last week you would think that was it for the Reno this year. If you did, you would be wrong.
Everyone’s favourite VP over at OPPO, Brian Shen, has once again spilled the beans on his Weibo account about an upcoming Reno device. According to Brian OPPO have a Reno device coming (after September) that will NOT be part of the Reno2 series of devices. It will also most likely have a 90Hz display and some form of flash upgrade.
For those puzzlers out there you can see his not-so-cryptic message below — what do you think the dashes stand for?
I am not sure what the Reno phone could be called considering it seems to have three letters and is not a Reno2. The 90Hz display makes sense as they are in the wild and also sourced and used by their sister company OnePlus in their OnePlus 7 Pro. Whether this means that the Reno _ _ _ will also have a 2K display is unknown but we can only hope so. It is likely that this new Reno device will make it to Australia although it seems like the Reno 5G and 10x Zoom were only just released here.
In other OPPO news another Reno 5G device has been spotted on the Chinese TENAA regulatory website and will not only support 5G but also a 20x zoom (no surprise at all). It will apparently have a 6.6-inch display with a 3,930mAh battery. This may well be the phone that Brian Shen is teasing above as it is also expected to arrive with a 90Hz display and 50W SuperVOOC charging (I miss SuperVOOC — nothing comes close to its speed).
OPPO have an event upcoming in Shanghai next week so it may all become clear then. Keep an eye on Ausdroid not just for all the latest on OPPO’s latest but also on its Australian availability and pricing.
