Fancy a new wearable? Huawei Watch GT 2 has just been announced

Following the original Huawei Watch GT which launched in October last year alongside the Mate 20 series, Huawei has updated its newest wearable line with the Huawei Watch GT 2 which launched alongside the Huawei Mate 30 Pro overnight.

There’ll be a good number of variants of Huawei Watch GT 2, and all of them will be coming to Australia – in both mens’ and womens’ styles, there’ll be both 46mm and 42mm variants, in a sports or classic edition (with a rubberised band) and elite edition (with a metal band).

The other thing that’s exciting about the Watch GT 2 is that it features a huge battery which should – on the 46mm editions, at least – comfortably last for two weeks between charges, and that’s even with 24-hour heart rate monitoring and ad-hoc GPS use.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 is also the first wearable line to use Huawei’s new Kirin A1 wearable processor, which helps deliver that huge battery life promise, as well as improved functionality.

46mm editions will incorporate a speaker and microphone for making and receiving phone calls from the wrist, but don’t get too excited – they’re not independent LTE watches; they use your paired phone to make calls over Bluetooth. However, for the majority of smartwatch users, this is more than sufficient. Not everyone wants to emulate Dick Tracey!

With features including TruSleep monitoring to help you get a better night’s rest, TruRelax to coach you to enhance your calm when you’re feeling tense, and exercise monitoring for a whole swathe of indoor and outdoor pursuits, the Huawei Watch GT 2 promises a lot – and going off the original Watch GT, it’ll do a reasonable job of delivering, too.

Availability and pricing for Australia are yet to be confirmed, but as with the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, we’re expecting to see the Watch GT 2 launch in Australia in the next month or two, and at a fairly affordable price point. The non-Elite 46mm variants should go for around $399, and you can expect to pay a little more for that premium model, and a little less for the 42mm variants.
