Huawei’s Watch GT 2 launched this week alongside its Mate 30 series. It received significantly less news attention though. Unlike the Mate 30 series – which might make headlines for the wrong reasons – the Watch GT 2 is the quiet companion.

The Watch GT 2 is the company’s second instalment in proper smartwatches. While the first generation didn’t really go on sale in Australia, the second generation will in a couple of months. My first impression was that it’s a significantly better watch all around.

From the inclusion of a speaker and microphone in the 46mm variant – for wrist-based calls when you’re away from your phone – through to a traditional-design 3D glass watchface, the Watch GT 2 looks and feels more the part than its predecessor. Better yet, the battery life is rated between two to three weeks, and the utility much improved.

While we haven’t had much time with the Watch GT 2 just yet, our mates at Tech Travel Geeks were in Munich for the Mate 30 launch and were lucky enough to walk away with a new Huawei Watch GT 2 to try out.

We think you’ll agree – the new Watch GT 2 looks appealing in a smartwatch market dominated by options that don’t run Google’s Wear OS. Give Tech Travel Geeks a like and a follow if you enjoy their hands-on, and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
