So far this year many release dates have come and passed with little notice for many smartphones. The Google Pixel 4a is no exception and although it is still unclear just when it will arrive all signs are pointing towards the next couple of weeks.

A few weeks ago we reported that Jon Prosser had a source tell him that the Pixel 4a was ready to ship but was unlikely to arrive in our hands any time soon. He had heard that the Pixel 4a was set to be announced on July 13 but not be available until August at the earliest.

Now it seems that part of that at least is true going by the other things happening at the same time. Over on the Google Store, in the US and in Australia, the Pixel 3a is out of stock with no date for its return. This is normally a sign that a new version is expected to arrive soon.

The Pixel 3a has been out of stock all week here in Australia pointing to an upcoming announcement. The out of stock situation also suggests an availability of the new mid-range Pixel in the coming weeks. Jon did say that the black version was expected on August 6, which is about three weeks after the expected announcement.

Android Police received the following statement from Google:

Google Store has sold through its inventory and completed sales of Pixel 3a. For people who are still interested in buying Pixel 3a, the product is available from some partners while supplies last.

We, on the other hand, with no evidence other than previous Google announcements in recent times, expect the Pixel 4a to be available to purchase within a few days of the announcement.

With so many other mid-range devices arriving each week we hope that Google get the Pixel 4a out into the hands of the public before it becomes irrelevant.
