Very occasionally my kids read Ausdroid — usually when they make an appearance — but I sure hope they will not read it today. The reason for this is that Google just announced that “to help kids with homework and learning from home” they have released new features for Google Lens designed specifically for that.
Not all of the new features help kids cheat on their homework with a new AR “Quantum mechanical model” allowing the user to view a 3D atom up close. This 3D atom model is part of “nearly 100 (3D) STEM concepts across biology, chemistry and more using compatible Android and iOS devices” that can be seen via Search.
Google have also highlighted Socratic to help students (and parent home teachers) get support for not just maths but also science, literature, social studies and more. The features in Socratic are soon coming to Google Lens as well which will allow students to take a photo of a “problem or equation” to provide helpful results — including step-by-step guides to help solve the equation (hopefully my kids use this guide to learn …..).
There are also new reading features including Read Along which will help kids follow the words and read along with their own voice. New functionality has also been added to Meet to help you as a parent keep track of where your kids are at with their work.
In these trying times where many kids have to learn from home with only their parents to try and help, and let’s face it it has been a while since many of us were at school — what are quadratic equations again? –Google have grouped together all of their learning resources in one place. Teach from Anywhere is a centralised location to give you, the parent or guardian, tips and tools to help your kids make the most of a bad situation.
