Subscription TV channel providers Fetch and Foxtel will lose their National Geographic channels in just over 2 months.
It’s unconfirmed but my guess is NZ Sky TV subscribers will lose their National Geographic channels at the same time or when the related Sky NZ deal with Disney also expires.
Neither Fetch or Foxtel commented about why this has happened but it’s a good bet their deal with National Geographic owner Disney expired and Disney wants Aussies to watch National Geographic content on their own Disney+ paid subscription service.
A Fetch spokesperson told me:
“The Nat Geo channels will be removed from Fetch on 31st March. We are currently investigating replacement options for our customers, and will let you know when we have an update to share.”
A Foxtel spokesperson told David Knox at TV Tonight:
“From March 1st 2023, National Geographic content will no longer be available on Foxtel’s linear channels and On Demand”.
“National Geographic content remains available on Foxtel for Disney+ subscribers, with the Disney+ app integrated on Foxtel iQ5, iQ4 and iQ3 set top boxes. There’s also a wide range of nature documentaries, reality and scripted series available on Foxtel and On Demand.”
