Super Stickman Golf 2 is not a particularly new app in the grand scheme of things, but what has brought it into the limelight is its use of the new Google Play games services that were announced at Google I/O a couple of weeks ago.
There’s no major learning curve involved in SSG2, you just point the guiding arrows in the direction you want the ball to go, then you hit the ball once the force-meter is at the point you think will get the ball closest to the hole. Yep. That simple.
But what makes SSG2 really great is that it has integrated Google Play games services which allows you to sign in with your Google+ account and play with your friends — so long as you know their username in the game. This is kind of a let-down, as it would be nice for your username in-game to be linked to your Google account so that you can see who in your Google+ friend group already has the game.
When playing with a friend, it isn’t played in real-time Update: race mode will allow real-time multiplayer and friend finding. Instead it’s turn-based; so first you play two holes, then your friend plays the two holes. After your friend has had their turns you can either choose to replay their shots or you can skip it and get right into your turn.
If you’re not up for the multiplayer aspect, then that’s cool too. I found the single player to be quite fun (and I’m not a mobile gamer!). You can collect ‘cash’ with your golf ball throughout the levels — there’s 4 9-hole courses on each of the 5 tours. You have to level up your golfer before you can play the higher level tours. I’m almost at level 3 which will make me eligible to play in the second tour.
SSG2 is the right mix of quick-and-easy gameplay and having enough diverse levels to keep you interested and playing for a solid amount of time. I usually don’t find myself installing games on my phone very often, but Super Stickman Golf 2 (SSG2) is really worth checking out. I mean, after all, it is free to play.
The game is free, but if you want to unlock little extras for the game such as more simultaneous multiplayer games, double XP, and ‘Golf Bux’. The Golf Bux are exchanged in-game for items to customise your little golfer. There’s a bunch of hats, power-ups and golfers that you can purchase with these Golf Bux. From what I’ve found this is the only areas where paying real-world money is applicable in the game, which is nice, because if you choose to purchase none of it, you’re not going to be at a great disadvantage (ie. not pay to win).
So if you find yourself with a bit of spare time this week, give the game a go. I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.
