The Ausdroid team’s current favourite noise cancelling wireless headphones Sony WH-1000XM3 will soon receive Amazon Alexa support.
The WH-1000XM3’s were recently reviewed by my colleague Dan who concluded that:
It’s clear to anyone who has the happy chance to try on a pair of these headphones that Sony has taken the lead here and it’s going to take something special for them – or anyone else – to top them.
Since the WH-1000XM3’s have only one shared button that controls either noise cancelling or smart assistant, it’s likely Alexa will be available as an alternative to Google Assistant as an option in the Sony Headphones app.
Sony claims that, with Amazon Alexa functionality joining Google Assistant, the top wireless noise-cancelling headphones provide more choice to buyers who want a hands-free, voice-controlled experience.
Promised functionality includes “tap the button and ask Alexa to play music, change tracks, control smart home devices, search information and more”.
Note that updates to Sony headphones and earphones are delivered via their Headphones app while they are paired to a phone/tablet. If you don’t use the app regularly you won’t get any updates.
