When it comes to smart home hardware, there are plenty of options but many are pricy making them unobtainable. Laser has teamed up to break that price barrier, making smart home hardware affordable for everyone. The hardware range includes cameras, lighting and power controls.

As is reasonable to expect with smart hardware, setup should take only moments for lights as a quick switch then following the simple instructions. For items that require mounting, installation is simple and speedy with need only for a few basic tools.

Chris Lau, Managing Director of Laser Co amusingly commented:

We have always been ‘laser’-focused on driving prices down in this category, and our range in Big W is a testament to how far the smart home category has come in just a few short years.

Not long ago a single smart light bulb would have cost upwards of $40 each, and we can now offer Australian families far more value such that they are essentially not paying any extra to ‘go smart’. In fact, these days you can get a wide combination of smart products and create a true smart home by bundling light bulbs, power plugs and maybe even a smart security camera for under $100.

The hardware range is compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, as well as controllable via the Laser SmartHome app. The hardware doesn’t need a hub with direct Wi-Fi connection capacity.

Another smart plug where the designers have kept it narrow so it doesn’t obstruct the adjacent socket on a standard two outlet GPO. Hooray! My TP Link smart plugs are so annoying in that regard.

While they got the width of the smart plug right, they screwed up big time with the upper overhang. To plug the smart plug into a powerpoint for use, you HAVE TO IGNORE powerpoint safety, by turning on the powerpoint before plugging the smart plug in.
