Telstra announced today that they are working as part of a partnership between the Queensland Government and Boeing’s Australian subsuidary Insitu Pacific to provide a mobile network to support the trials of commercial and civil applications for Drones.

That’s right NSW, Queensland is getting drones, just watch yourself! Telstra will be providing 3G/ 4G connectivity and engineering support to the project aimed at trialing drones, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) which ever is your preference.

The first planned trial will be with natural gas company QGC working in the Surat Basin in Queensland. The specifics of what the companys will be doing weren’t discussed but looking for natural gas would be a safe bet.

It’s great to see this type of technology been trialled in Australia, and seeing as Queensland is the most innovative state it’s unsurprising it’s taking place here, I mean there.
