Things are starting to heat up in the wearable space with Android Wear 2.0 scheduled to arrive in a couple of weeks. We have seen the LG/Google Watches leak along with the HTC watch but little has been said about the next Huawei watch. Perhaps more should be, given its popularity in 2015, and that time is now.
Perennial leaker, Evan Blass, has reported that the next generation Huawei watch will be arriving with “cellular connectivity”.
The second generation Huawei watch, Huawei Watch 2, was originally slated for a 2016 release but the delays with the Android Wear 2.0 release have seen that pushed back. It is now likely to be announced at MWC at the end of February in Barcelona.
The watch itself is said to be sporting a SIM card slot to allow data connections when out of range of Wi-Fi or a paired smartphone. The SIM will also add the ability to make phone calls which may seem strange for now but in a few years it may well be something that we take for granted.

It also seems that “sporty” is the name of the game this year with the Huawei Watch 2 said to also be adopting this “sportier” look (just as LG and HTC are doing). Personally I would like two watches thanks Huawei. A sporty watch is all well and good but the world still needs classy watches. Maybe they think there is still life in the Huawei Watch and we already know it is able to run Android Wear 2.0 due to the beta versions available for it.
Either way, it is shaping up to be an exciting time for the Android Wear space with several watches now scheduled to be announced at MWC (or earlier). Anyone else saving their money to purchase a watch (or 2)? What sort of watch do you want? Stylish or sporty? Or both?
Will it come with a SIM slot, or will it be an eSIM? I thought I read it was an eSIM (do we even use those in Australia yet?)
Been keeping an eye open looking for a replacement for the original LG G Watch I still have. Would really like one that does wireless charging though since the pins on this have been the most frustrating thing about it and usually takes a good 5-10 minutes trying to line it up so it sits correctly and actually charges.
I’m in the exact same boat been waiting for the new ones to replace the original g watch just hoping the news ones have a reasonable price in Australia
Same here. Those damn pins are so annoying. Main thing I want is nfc for Android pay.
Yeah, there all seem to be going into crazy price land. I was able to get the G for $88 though so I might be expecting a bit much :-/ Anything around $300 should be okay though.
