After Pioneer yesterday announced Chromecast support for their range of AV gear, parent company Onkyo has announced their range of AV equipment will also be getting Chromecast support.
The Chromecast update will be made available through a firmware update to their range of wireless speakers and AV receivers. While Onkyo and Pioneer are the major brands we know here in Australia, a range of Integra branded devices will also receive the update as well.
Once updated, the receivers and speakers will be able to stream audio from Chomecast-enabled smartphone apps like Pocket Casts, Google Play Music and more. The update will also enable support for Google Home, and audio devices with Google Assistant which will let you select music and control volume with your voice.
According to HD-Guru, the list of Onkyo and Integra devices inline to receive the firmware update include:
Onkyo:
AV receivers: TX-NR676 , TX-NR575 , TX-8270 , PR-RZ5100 , TX-RZ3100 , TX-RZ1100 , TX-RZ810 , TX-RZ710 , TX-RZ610 , TX-NR757 , TX-NR656 , and TX-NR555 ; the HT-S7800 home theater in a box, the SBT-A500 soundbar system, and the just-launched NCP-302 multiroom wireless speaker.
Integra:
AV Receivers: DRC-R1 , DRX-R1 , DRX-7 (pictured at top), DRX-5 , DRX-4 , DRX-3 , DRX-2 , DSX-3 and the DLB-5 object-based audio soundbar system.
Onkyo is apparently rolling out the firmware update so check the Onkyo, Integra, or Pioneer support websites on how to download and apply the update now.
Brilliant! I have a TX-NR626 which already has a Chromecast v1 connected to one of its inputs, but if they’re going to support Chromecast via a firmware update that’s fantastic news.
I guess this suggest this push is coming from Google and not the manufacturers.
