After seemingly the longest of waits, you can now purchase Nest products in Australia. They’re limited in their availability with Nest having partnered exclusively with Australian online comparison company iSelect as to distribute the devices.
The Nest Australia website is now live, with links to the iSelect website where you can purchase their Carbon Monoxide and Smoke detector, the Nest Protect as well as the Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor models.
As announced earlier this week, Nest Protect can be purchased from iSelect for $189 for either the hardwired or the battery model, or you can purchase a 2-pack for $353 for either a wired or battery powered model. You can also add installation for an additional $169. The battery model is powered by Six long-life AA Energizer Ultimate batteries, while the wired in model connects to your in-home power source – which you will definitely need someone to install for you.
The Nest Indoor and Outdoor Cameras are available for $319 each, or you can save a bit and purchase in a 2-pack for $588. Unfortunately you can’t purchase one of each to make a 2-pack, but maybe they’ll think about that down the track. You can arrange an installer to come and install either the Indoor or Outdoor Nest Cam for between $169 – $319, not a bad idea for the outdoor camera but the indoor model should be fairly straightforward to install.

The Nest devices are controlled through the Nest app, available in Google Play and the iOS app store. The app is supremely easy to use, and setup for devices is quite easy.
iSelect is an odd choice, but they’re seemingly offering deals for bundling the products with deals from broadband and other providers. You can check out the deals on their ‘Special Offers’ page now, or just head to each product and put your order in.
Only next product I want is the learning thermostat…
Does this mean Nest Protect now meets Australian standards?
From the product page:
Certifications:
* Australian Standard (AS) 3786:2014, Certificate No: SMK40713
* EN-14604 – Smoke alarm devices
* EN-50291 – Electrical apparatus for the detection of carbon monoxide in domestic premises
“The Nest Australia website is now live, with links to the iSelect website where you can purchase their CO2 and Smoke detector, the Nest Protect”
Should be CO or carbon monoxide detector, it can’t be used for CO2.
Yep. Definitely. Updated.
