Samsung’s Gear S2, announced at IFA in Berlin last year has been a fairly popular smartwatch despite a lack of feature updates since its release. But according to SamMobile, the watch is about to get a host of new UX improvements and features.
They’re calling it the ‘biggest update yet’, with the headline feature the option to use your own photos as a background on watch faces. The focus on watch faces in the update will also include recommendations for watch faces which will be able to install from the watch itself. The ability to install watch faces from the watch will also be a reflection of the focus on using your phone less often moving the focus to the watch.
The update for the Gear S2 will add a new feature allowing you to post your exercise stats to Facebook – because if you don’t share your exercise on social media did it really happen? The Gear S2 will also be getting a sleep tracker as well, perhaps you’ll be able to share that to Facebook too.
SamMobile also lists updates to the weather app which will show UV index information, something particularly important here in Australia. S Voice on the Gear S2 will be now able to start a timer, you will also see a menu for managing notifications when there’s no unread notifications available.
There’s no official time-frame for the rollout, though SamMobile says it could happen in the coming week – just in time for IFA in early September – but this is Samsung so it could happen sooner or later depending on when it’s ready.
Hang on. The Gear S2 already allows using photos for watch faces, changing AND watch faces directly on the watch and customising them. How are these the ‘biggest updates yet’??? Am I missing something here?
