Google has just taken the step of removing the Huawei Watch, which had been on-sale for some time, from the Google Store and with it the Android Wear category.
Google is cleaning shop of late, recently removing the Pixel C, which had been out of stock for months, from the store. While the US Google store features a selection of watches such as the Nixon Mission, Michael Kors Access and Polar M600, the Australian Google Store only had the Huawei Watch so without it the category is now gone.
The impending launch of Android Wear 2.0, and with it the rumoured ‘Google Watches’ which seem to be coming from LG in the form of the LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style, may see a return of the Android Wear section to the Australian Google Store, but nothing is certain. Google has been offering less variety of devices through the Google Store, instead preferring to let vendors offer their devices through retail stores – but maybe with the LG watches being ‘Google’ devices the category may come back.
If you’re in the market for an Android Wear watch, then there may be a new selection in a couple of weeks on the Google Store, but there may not be as well. We’ll have to wait and see.
These LG watches aren’t Google branded though. I’m confused.
