After building success for both Chrome OS and Android devices in enterprise, Google is launching IT admin tools for G Suite Manager for Android Wear devices.
The new tools are designed to work with Android Wear 2.0 device. Android Wear 2.0 brought a lot of new functionality to the wrist including the ability to ‘write emails, manage calendar appointments, chat with coworkers, make calls, and more’.
The management tool, called Google Mobile Management, will allow corporate IT managers to protect data by enforcing PIN/Password protection for screen locks, as well as remove data if a device is lost/stolen or if someone leaves the job. They will also be able to make new corporate apps available to the watch or force install of apps, or add a work profile.
There are also monitoring controls letting managers see all the managed mobile devices and details about them including who uses them that are registered within the organisation. Details like OS updates, app installs and settings changes can also be monitored, so if they break policy then access to corporate information can be restricted.
The Google Mobile Management tools will be rolling out over the next 3 days. Any employees who sync a managed corporate account to their watch will be prompted to download the Google Apps Device Policy app and set up their device accordingly.
