At the launch for the Nexus 7 (2013) in the small hours of Thursday morning, Australia was listed as one of the countries that the new Nexus 7 would be sold in and it appears from the information page on the Google Australia website that it will be sold at retail as well as through Google Play.
The information site is pretty bare bones, it features the simple picture above, which shows the new Nexus 7 displaying what appears to be a shot from the Fraunhofer Virtual Surround Sound video demo and a brief description of the tablet. Visitors are also invited to sign up for alerts to be delivered to your email address when the new Nexus 7 goes on sale through Google Play or at a retailer.
Exactly which retailers the new Nexus 7 will be sold through, is undetermined, however it’s safe to assume the usual Asus resellers would be carrying the device. So far our attempts to find out which retailers have orders in the system for the new Nexus 7 or when they would begin arriving have not been successful but we will keep trying.

I got one here in New Jersey yesterday but they are sold out pretty much everywhere now. I suspect it will be a 1-2 month wait for Australian stock 🙁 It is an awesome tablet though, streets ahead of the old N7.

Pity you can’t just sign up for Nexus 7 notifications but have to sign up to ALL of Google’s notifications.
Thinking about getting someone to order nexus 7 for me in the States. Does anyone know if I would have any issues apart from American style charger. Know its only WiFi model, so don’t have to worry about radios and what not but just want to make sure before spending the money.
what about chrome cast in Australia?

Given the UK’s not getting it until Sep 13th and the date and pricing has been announced for that region I think you may be out of luck.
