Lenovo has made tentative steps into the Chromebook world so far, they’ve so far released the Lenovo X131e for the educational market – as well as very limited retail sales – but according to Jay Parker, President, Lenovo North America 2014 will see the world’s biggest PC maker make a big push in the Chromebook market.
According to an interview with CNet, Mr Parker advised that the company plans to release multiple Chromebook models by this summer(Winter down here) covering multiple price points as well as configurations.
The expansion into Chromebooks is something that a number of manufacturers are seeing as a potential step away from the Microsoft Windows sales model which has seen disappointing sales after the release of Windows 8 and 8.1 and the potential for big sales from Chromebooks is something that manufacturers can’t ignore.
Mr Parker said
I think Chromebooks can be very impactful in the market really quickly. We believe the market will accelerate greatly in the next 12 months.
With the five largest PC manufacturers in the world – HP, Lenovo, Acer, Dell and Asus – all making Chromebooks or planning to release Chromebooks or ChromeOS based products, the ChromeOS market is about to explode. While traditionally we haven’t seen much in the way of Android or ChromeOS products from Lenovo Australia yet, we’re more than ready to see some products this year.
Whilst it is good to see manufacturers trying to move away from M$, I’d very much prefer they started releasing Android devices in the Chromebook formfactor.
