Google provides a number of tools you can use to introduce kids to the world around us, from Maps and Google Earth to Street View the tools are there, but not exactly ‘fun’. Now Google has created a new app called Verne: The Himalayas, which encourages kids to explore the Himalayan mountains as Verne, a 500 foot tall Yeti.
The app is free on Google Play for devices running Android 4.4 and above, the description says:
Verne: The Himalayas is a new app that invites you to explore Google Maps’ 3D imagery of the Himalayas alongside a 500 foot Yeti named Verne. As Verne, you can run up Mt. Everest in seconds, skate across icy lakes, chase yaks, discover bits of information, ride a jetpack, play Himalayan instruments, and more.
It’s a pretty neat app with a number of loudspeakers around the place spouting out facts about the Himalayas. You can check out Everest base camp, chase an Argali around, and run up all the smaller peaks in the Himalayas before finally heading up to the top of Everest itself.
