Mobvoi, the power brand behind TicWatch and PicPods has announced at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, a new and updated version of its true wireless earbuds, the TicPods 2 Pro. Alongside these is an updated version of the original TicPods, called the TicPods 2, which brings with them some interesting new features.
The second generation and updated version of the original TicPods will bring high definition audio thanks to Qualcomm aptX support and low-latency. Features include Bluetooth 5.0, quick pairing and in-ear detection.
The TicPods 2 Pro are the main attraction here really, as they come with unique AI features that will not only listen out for the usual “Hey Google” trigger word, but it will also respond to on-board quick commands for controlling music playback and answering calls. It also comes with TicMotion, that will perform similar functions based on movements of your head – say nod twice to be able to answer a call or shake your head twice to ignore the call.
This is in addition to the newly and interestingly named feature, ‘Tickle touch’ controls, that will enable you to easily adjust the volume without drawing a lot of attention. The Ticpods 2 Pro also come with high definition audio thanks to Qualcomm aptX support, low-latency is also promised and dual-mic noise cancellation, along with Bluetooth version 5 for quicker pairing and in-ear detection.
Both models, the TicPods 2 and TicPods 2 Pro are able to offer 4 hours playback on a single charge which can be extended to 20 hours altogether when charged through the case which is smaller and lighter than the previous model. Both models come with a USB-C charging port with the case and IPX4 water resistance.
The TicPods 2 will retail for US$99.99 (AU$139.99 approximately) whilst the TicPods 2 Pro will retail for US$139.99 (AU$209.99 approximately) with Navy, Blossom (pink), and Ice (white) colour options available for both. Pre-orders have opened up with the ability to save up 10% on pre-orders taken between now and 15 January 2020.
Would love to see a review of these when they are available. Most other earbuds have become overpriced since Apple set the bar.
