It’s December 6th and right on schedule, Google has released the latest Android update to Android 7.1.1 for all of their currently supported hardware. If you’ve got a Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Pixel C or a Nexus Player you can grab either the Factory Images, Full OTA Images or the Binaries right now from the Google Developers website.

Despite the version jump from 7.1 to 7.1.1 there’s not a lot of new goodies in the update; we know it has the monthly security update along with performance optimisation and bug features as well as the recently announced new Moves for Pixel Devices, apart from that we’re not expecting too much more.

Here’s how Moves looks with the update (hint: it’s in Settings):

If you’re on the Android Beta Program/ Preview you will be automatically updated to the latest version along with the rest of the rollout, alternatively you’ll have to install the factory image as the OTA won’t apply to your device. Remember flashing a Factory Image wipes all of your user data!

If you’ve got a Nexus 6, Google has an update for you as well, but it’s only Android 7.0 bringing with it the security and bug fixes. While you may desire the latest hotness from you older device there is still genuine value in ongoing security updates that shouldn’t be scoffed at, the Nexus 6 may be “stuck on Android 7.0, which is still the latest major release, but at least it’s safe for a while to come.

Need help flashing an OTA file? We’ve got you covered.

Duncan your information about the Nexus 6 update is incorrect. Go back and check the Android Police post as they have also updated. Nexus 6 will indeed get the 7.1.1 update… eventually.

My 6P just got the 7.1.1 OTA update. Although, I was connected to a USA VPN wifi at the time.

Haven’t got the OTA for my Pixel C running DP2 (NPF26H). I normally would’ve received the OTA by now.

Anyone else got the same issue?

Paul Lucas

i got the same problem on my 6P.

This is from Android Police.

If you’re coming from the developer preview, you may have noticed that these new builds are actually an older version than the currently-available preview build. As a result, attempting to sideload them on a device with the latest developer preview will fail. This likely means Google will have to roll out an OTA update specifically to devices in the beta program, so we’ll be on the lookout for that.

Are you from Australia? Is it Pixel or xl version? Am on Pixel xl from Australia and no update so far

TheGreenway

Yes I am in Australia, the 5″ Pixel. I went into system update, pressed on check for new version. It came back and said that I have the latest version (which was 7.1). A few minutes later I got a notification telling me I can download and install 7.1.1.

Kar

Looks not yet pushed for Pixel xl then.. wait game..
