OnePlus are leaping ahead in the industry with their community driven phones and as they have been maturing as a company they have been producing nothing but winners. All eyes for OnePlus will now be on what they can produce when it comes to a 5G phone and today they have announced they will be packing their 5G prototype and showing it off at MWC.

OnePlus have a range of things on in a couple of weeks at MWC, showing how big they are becoming. One of the things listed in their agenda has been officially announced today:

Connect with the OnePlus Community over 5G
OnePlus, at Qualcomm’s booth (Hall 3 Stand 3E10), invites all to connect and communicate with our community over a 5G network. Attendees will also be able to experience the capabilities of 5G gaming on a OnePlus 5G prototype. Keep an eye out for the limited-edition Qualcomm x OnePlus pin badge, only available at the OnePlus stand.

There have been a few rumours and also comments from OnePlus themselves that have given us a few details of their 5G smartphone. It will run a Snapdragon 855 with a Qualcomm X50 modem, it will NOT be the OnePlus 7 and it is not expected to sell in large volumes. It is also expected to be released in the UK in May of this year.

Ausdroid will be there in person to check out this prototype, given that we have been invited and we love OnePlus devices and the people associated with them. It will be interesting to see what OnePlus do bring with this phone given the wording of the invite – it may be a specialised gaming phone designed to stream games in HD over 5G. We will of course have to wait and see.

We will be getting hands on impressions and videos for you so stay tuned for our extensive MWC coverage.
