It might be a month late, but HMD Global’s delayed press conference finally took the wraps off some new Nokia smartphones, and the new Nokia 8.3 5G looks to be a powerhouse.

Featuring 5G support for bands in every country that currently has 5G, the new smartphone will support 5G in more places than any other 5G device on the market currently.

The Nokia 8.3 5G is powered by a revitalised Snapdragon 765G processor, and features 5G NSA/SA/DSS support. It includes a 6.8-inch FHD display, hole-punch front-facing camera at 24MP resolution, but it does keep a chin with a great big Nokia logo plastered across it.

Put that to one side, though, as there are four cameras on the rear, headed up by a 64MP main sensor with Zeiss optics. There’s also a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, 2MP depth and macro sensors. There’s a side-mounted fingerprint sensor integrated with the power button, and the full complement of USB-C and 3.5mm ports for connectivity. There’s even a dedicated Google Assistant button. NFC is included, naturally, for all those mobile payments.

All this is brought together with a 4,500 mAh battery which, given HMD Global’s stock Android experience and optimisation creds, should last for a virtual eternity.

Pricing and availability for Australia is to be confirmed.
