Sony has been fairly open towards their software approach on Android. They’ve led the way on a number of AOSP based projects for Xperia handsets, and overall, there’s little to complain about when it comes to ‘Skins’ on a Sony Xperia handset. But Sony wants to do more, as evidenced by the recent announcement of a ‘software concept’ trial for Xperia Z3 owners in Sweden. Overnight, Sony has spoken a bit more about the trial.
To start with, the trial is limited to Xperia Z3 owners in Sweden, and only 500 places are available for customers who meet those criteria. This initial trial is the possible start of a larger trial which could roll out to other markets, and Sony says, more devices.
The trial will allow Sony to try out some new things with their interface, which they say will be a stripped back, more ‘vanilla’ style Android OS, with the Sony apps that users love. The trial is a chance for Sony to ‘listen and act upon bug reports, opinions and experiences, so we can acquire feedback to improve the experiences based on what you like and what you don’t’.
If you know anyone in Sweden, with an Xperia Z3, this is a really great opportunity to have their voice heard. Point them at the information page and they can choose to sign up from there.
