Hot on the heels of updating their range of embedded Bravia Android TV sets to Marshmallow, Sony is pushing ahead with a Nougat rollout heading to selected TVs.
Thanks to regular Ausdroid reader @mr_bouza we’re aware that at minimum, Sony’s 49″ 7000D (KD-49X7000D) Android TV owners are seeing an update of their OS to Nougat. There are some vague references on a few forums that other models in the Sony range are seeing updates as well, so you may want to check your TV.
We’ve been supplied some screenshots and videos showing what seems to be a pretty simple upgrade process (as you’d expect) and the interface after upgrade. While we can’t share all of these as some display private data, its fair to say the update is a really welcome one that improves the user experience.
For owners who are yet to see the update, check your system settings as you may have an update waiting for you now!
I only just got the marshmallow update on my 2015 model and has rendered it useless. Takes 5 – 10 seconds for each app change, Screen change or to bring up the menus or home screen. Changing volume is a chore.
I hope nougat comes to the older models to fix it. Or at least let us roll back so it gets half snappy again.

The picture in picture feature is a decent add-on too.
There’s also a way to switch between apps by holding the home button.
Overall, it’s a really good update from Marshmallow.
