The protracted rollout of Android Wear 2.0 has been a frustrating experience for Asus ZenWatch 2 and ZenWatch 3 owners, but the company has apparently finally confirmed dates for the watches to receive their updates.

The update on timeframe was given to Wareable.com, who advised :

Asus has confirmed that the ZenWatch 3 will get the Android Wear 2.0 update on July 11. The ZenWatch 2 update will be released in two waves, the first in July and the second end of July/beginning of August.

Android Wear 2.0 brings a number of UI changes, including the ability to install and run native Android Wear apps from the Google Play Store from the watch. The Asus ZenWatch hardware does not include the requisite hardware (NFC) for utilising Android Pay, but it does have a number of sensors to take advantage of Google Fit improvements.

Asus has been rumoured to be getting out of the watch business due to lacklustre sales, so it’s unclear whether this lack of financial success has led to the company being less than responsive to updates for the watches. The reasoning behind the update delay has been back and forth, with Asus previously hinting that Google was behind the delay, but it’s a matter of he said/she said on this one.

As far as owners of the ZenWatch 2 and 3 are concerned though, the update should be here soon.
