After launching the second developer preview of Android 8.1 for supported Pixel and Nexus devices, Google has announced today that Android 8.1 full release is coming tomorrow.

The announcement was made as part of the Android Oreo (Go Edition) launch for lower end devices, stating ‘We’re excited to announce that this software experience—Android Oreo (Go edition)—is ready, and launching as a part of the Android 8.1 release tomorrow’. The second Android 8.1 developer preview launched only a week ago, making it an extremely short testing phase.

Android 8.1 brings about a few improvements and is slated to be released to the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL and Pixel C. For users of the Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL, display tuning should be included to fix some of those issues and the Pixel Visual Core processor will also be activated, allowing for faster processing of photos and other goodies. The Android 8.1 update should also include the latest security updates, which were announced this morning.

Anyone enrolled in the Android Beta program should receive an OTA notification to update to the stable version of Android 8.1, similarly so will anyone not enrolled in the Beta program, so that we’ll all be on one Android 8.1 version.

Can’t wait for the visual core to go live and see if some new features of the Google Camera follow it. Mainly that remove things from pictures feature they showed off at IO!

Still waiting for Android 8.0 on HTC U11. Seems to have rolled out in USA & parts of Asia but not Australia.
