Google has been ramping up the focus on Tablet apps for a fair while now, going as far back as a year ago when they first announced a tablet app checklist. Earlier this year they expanded the checklist and announced a Designed for Tablets section in Google Play but as of November 21st that section will be front and centre for users, showing off Apps that Google feels meets the guidelines.

The announcement today on their Android Developers blog, says that the ‘Designed for Tablets’ section will feature – Top Paid, Top Free, Top Grossing, Top New Paid, Top New Free, and Trending Apps that all meet the Tablet App Guidlines in order to be featured in this list.

Google certainly recognises the importance of the tablet market, they advised today that 70 million Android tablets have been activated, thanks in large part to the ‘Nexus 7 and other great devices’. With so many devices out there, the potential revenue streams from a successful Tablet App eco-system for both Google and Developers is astonishing.

Will this be enough to kickstart an infux of successful Tablet Apps to Google Play? We’ll have to wait and see.
