Google has been pushing their Slides, Docs and Sheets Android Apps since separating them out of the main Drive app earlier this year. Today they are due to receive an update which will make usability a little easier, as well as prepare the way for the Nexus 9 Keyboard Folio case.
To start with, you’ll of course get the mainstay of Google Android app updates: ‘bug fixes, performance updates, and improved accessibility’, but Google has also included some additional functionality to do with accessing newly shared docs faster. A new ‘Incoming’ tab has been added in each app which lets you quickly access newly shared docs.
Google has also updated the apps to include keyboard shortcuts from Bluetooth keyboards, in a move which could be seen by some as preparation for more productivity on devices like the upcoming Nexus 9 with its Keyboard Folio case. Shortcuts like CTRL+C to copy have been added, and in Sheets, you can now tap to drag and select a range while composing formula.
Google is focusing on templates, making creating a copy of a document easier. A new function has been added to the ‘Share & export’ menu. Simply tap the option and a new doc will appear.
Google is going to roll the updates to the apps out over the coming days, so make sure you have the apps installed on your device.
