Iconic Rock’n’Roll and pop culture magazine Rolling Stone has announced a new deal which will see a large portion of their back catalogue, which spans almost 50 years, made available on Google Play Newsstand for free.
In a deal, which has apparently seen Google take out advertising worth somewhere in the region of “seven figures”, Rolling Stone will make ‘three to four major stories from each archive issue’ available for free through Google Play Newsstand, as well as through the Rolling Stone website. But that’s just the beginning, Rolling Stone has an extensive library of multimedia available and Gus Wenner, head of digital for Wenner Media, publishers of Rolling Stone magazine, plans to ‘enhance the archive stories with multimedia content, including sound and video’.
So, when is it coming? Well, it’s going to be available from 8PM Eastern Time on Friday the 30th of January in the US, or around noon tomorrow AEDT. The content will be available in the Newsstand section of Google Play, so if you’re in the mood to catch up on some historical reading, this is a great way to do it.
