Pre-roll ads on YouTube videos are an annoying, but necessary part of life, but their days could be numbered according to a new email being circulated to YouTube partners.

YouTube has been emailing partners advising them that their subscription service is getting ready to launch, with the service looking to do away with pre-roll ads for a monthly fee. This new model differs from previous attempts to monetise content on YouTube, which saw channels able to charge a subscription, as well as separate from the recently released YouTube Music Key service for music consumption.

The YouTube subscription service will apparently be launched this year according to Bloomberg and the email being sent out to YouTube partners indicates that the service is almost ready to launch.

The link to the YouTube Creator Studio sheds further light on how the subscription model will help to monetise partners:

YouTube will pay you 55% of the total net revenues recognized by YouTube from subscription fees that are attributable to the monthly views or watchtime of your Content as a percentage of the monthly views or watchtime of all or a subset of participating content in the relevant subscription offering (as determined by YouTube). If your Content is included in and viewed by a user in multiple subscription offerings, YouTube will pay you based on the subscription offering with the highest amount of net revenues recognized by YouTube, as calculated by YouTube.

Google hasn’t actually officially announced anything as yet, but with these sorts of offers and details heading out it’s a good bet that it can’t be too far away.
