Google Search

Google’s main app has received an update which now gives users the ability to add nicknames to contacts within their devices.

The update, which has been available for a few people, has now gone live for the remainder of users now and the folks over at Android Police has discovered that Google is progressing towards the Trusted Voice feature that surfaced a few versions ago.

The smart lock tool it seems will allow you to unlock your device with a spoken phrase. Android Police have also found something called Seamless Hotword, for which there is no explanation as to what it is exactly or how it will work. Guess we will just have to wait and see what Google will bring with Seamless Hotword going forward.

The update is rolling out to users via Google Play, which you can download via the link below, otherwise if you would rather the APK file, you can download it right here.

I’m confused. I set nicknames in my contacts app ages ago and they have always worked fine in the Google app?
And the seamless hotword would just allow you to not have to pause after “Ok Google” while the app boots up. E.g. “Ok Google call john”.
