The announcement of YouTube Red this morning will finally mean a way to skip those annoying adverts at the start of videos without impacting the revenue streams of content creators – at least those signed up for the service. But YouTube Red wasn’t the only announcement YouTube had today, announcing YouTube Music would be getting a standalone app soon.
The announcement came as part of the YouTube Red reveal, when they spoke about the pricing structure. The YouTube Red subscription of US$9.99 per month will also include access to YouTube Music which YouTube went on to say will see a ‘brand new YouTube Music app’ that will be ‘available soon’.
A reminder on what YouTube Music is:
YouTube Music is designed to make discovering, watching and listening to music easier than ever. Any song or artist you choose on YouTube Music will start you on a personal journey through one of the richest music catalogs; just sign in, tap a track you love, and see where your music takes you. And as a special bonus – YouTube Red works with Google Play Music, so subscribe to one and automatically get access to the other.
Frustratingly that’s two new services which are US only. However, YouTube did go on to address availability saying ‘We’re working to bring YouTube Red and our YouTube Music, Gaming and Kids apps to more countries soon.’
We’ll be watching this one with keen interest as we’d all love to get access to all these services – at least Kids and Gaming we can download an APK.
Have you changed country to sign up for YouTube Music? Is the service worth it for you?
