With the Olympic Games less than a month away, Samsung has today announced the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition, as well as the Rio 2016 app.

The phone is the same Galaxy S7 Edge we’ve come to know and love, but with a limited edition Olympics colour scheme that incorporates the five official colors of the Olympic Rings. The colours are present on the blue Olympic rings on the rear of the phone, the red power and green volume buttons, as well as yellow speaker grilles on the front – and obviously the phone is black.

The Olympics theme extends to the software on the phone, with Samsung advising that the Olympic Rings colouring has been incorporated into ‘the phone’s user interface in the home and lock screens as well as the message, dial and contact screens and notification bar’.

Also present on the phone is the official Rio 2016 Android app, which has been released for everyone on Google Play. The app contains a lot of features in the lead up to the Olympics and Paralympics, including Torch Relay information such as routes, stories and photos and videos. Useful information like competition information, schedule and sports rules will also be available.

The app is available to everyone from today, and Samsung will be giving 12,500 Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition and the recently released Gear IconX earphones to all Rio 2016 Olympians. Samsung will also be making the phone available for sale in selected countries including Brazil, the United States, China, Germany and Korea. Given the lack of special edition Galaxy S series launches here in Australia it’s not likely we’ll see it here.

The app was not found in the store. 🙁
