After announcing support for fingerprint sensors in February this year, PayPal has this week finally delivered the support in an update to the app beginning to roll out now.
PayPal introduced fingerprint support alongside their visual refresh of their app in February, though at the time it wasn’t made clear which devices would be supported. This week, PayPal has gotten clear about device support specifically naming two Nexus devices and a Galaxy phone:
PayPal has been working with Samsung as well as LG closely to get fingerprint authentication working on the Galaxy S5 and S6, and last year’s LG V10. This update expands to the Marshmallow based fingerprint authentication built into the OS itself, so it should just be a matter of running the app on a device with Marshmallow.
The app hasn’t hit many devices as yet, but appears to be set to roll out this week. If you’ve been waiting for this it’s time to grab the app from Google Play.
There are a few bugs/features. You can’t turn off some of the “not recommended” options as that turns off fingerprint logon but these are options you would not want then. It also confirms logout which again I don’t want to do if all I need is my fingerprint to logon
