Google loves acknowledging little things, and the Google Doodle team is back with a neat cricket game to celebrate the launch of the one day international 2017 ICC Champions Trophy tournament.
The 2017 ICC Champions Trophy tournament is a tournament running in England and Wales from the 1st to 18th of June with the top eight One Day International (ODI) Cricket teams vying for the Champions Trophy. It’s exciting for cricket fans, but if you’re not a cricket fan you can still appreciate the neat game Google has put up on the search page.
The game works on both mobile and desktop and sees you take control of a cricket (funny I know) with a bat and the aim is simply to hit the ball. You’re playing against a bunch of snails, but unlike their real world counterparts they’re quite speedy about retrieving the ball and returning it.
The game has been designed to be small in size, and this makes it work even for those who are on slower mobile networks – it is, Google says ‘our smallest interactive Doodle ever — even snail networks can load it in seconds.’
It’s got some neat animations, including the one where you get out for zero runs – a duck – where your cricket will turn into, yep, a duck. The crowd in the background will shoot up balloons containing how many runs you score, and the crickets on-screen start running as soon as you hit the ball – and to hit the ball, all you need to do is hit the space bar or tap on the bat icon.
You can share your scores through Facebook, Twitter or email once you’re done to encourage your friends, families and colleagues to compete against you for the top prize (spoiler: there is no prize, except fun itself).
If you’re interested in checking it out, head over to the Google website on mobile or desktop to start tapping.
