Google’s first commercially available Android TV device, the Asus Nexus Player, is catching up with its embedded Android TV cousins with Google Assistant now available.
According to Android Police, the November Oreo Security update for the Nexus Player allows you to access the Assistant after a reboot – though they do theorise it may require an update to the Google App as well. The Google Assistant is accessible using the in-built microphone in the remote control to trigger it.
The Nexus Player has continued to receive updates even though it was launched in November 2014 with Android Lollipop, making it one of the more long-lived Google devices available. If you’re a Nexus Player owner, you may want to check your updates to make sure you have the November update, then try out Google Assistant.
