Dark mode is something we’re quite fond of in the Android ecosystem; it’s easy on your eyes and offers a reasonably significant battery saving, but not all apps support it yet. Facebook Messenger is joining the pack with dark mode in private testing.

Spotted by Android Police, Facebook are painfully close to delivering the Dark Mode we’ve been looking forward to since late last year. You can simply send one of your contacts a moon emoji for the option to appear. Not everyone is seeing this though, so it may well be a server side update that’s required per-user to gain access.

It’s a clear sign that the work is done on dark mode and nearing ready for general use, so keep your eyes out for and update via the Play Store soon.

It’s working, and the dark theme is a very welcome addition.
