Google is slowly developing its podcast product, and while it might not have feature parity with established players in the field, it’s making improvements to make it better and easier to use.
One such improvement was flagged earlier this week – the ability to search individual episodes as well as just shows themselves. Google Podcasts product manager Zack Reneau-Wedeen announced that the feature would be coming to all users by week’s end, and lo and behold, the feature is here.
When searching in Google Podcasts now, you’ll see an episode results section – search for Vertical Hold, for example, and not only will you find one of our favourite podcast shows, but you’ll also find episodes that feature the term. Unfortunately, the feature doesn’t appear to be live in Australia just yet – we’re still getting the old show-specific search results:
We understand that the feature is rolling out though, and most likely the result of a server-side change. If you’re a Google Podcasts user, chances are you’ll find the feature live soon.
I hope they keep adding features, since the latest update to Pocket Casts I’m now on the hunt for a new podcast app
