Gmail Header

Gmail is one of the last Google apps to get a dark mode makeover. That’s changing with the first signs appearing the latest update rolling out.

Depending on the version of Android you’re running, you may find dark mode options in the settings for the app. For Android Pie users, you’ll need to have night mode enable in developer options. For Android Q Beta users, turning on Dark Theme is a must. Gmail will show you the early attempts at Dark Mode and thanks to Android Police – we can show you.

As you can see, black text on a grey background in settings doesn’t do much for your eyes. In fact it’s probably not really usable yet. Reports suggest it’s kinda buggy too with intermittent triggering of dark mode (no manual toggle) in the app.

None of our team have got the update or seen Dark mode made an appearance on our phones as yet. With the above detail in mind – it can’t be far away. If you’re keen to jump the queue, head to APK Mirror and grab the update for yourself.

So for the Gmail app, access to Dark mode will be OS version dependent.
Pathetic Google. Absolutely pathetic.
