In what appears to be a pretty smart move, Twitter has updated its privacy policy to include media of others. The policy update specifically notes “private media” to be of interest.

The new addition to the policy specifically relates to private individuals, not public figures, a clause that covers media outlets posting news articles:

media of private individuals without the permission of the person(s) depicted.

This policy is not applicable to media featuring public figures or individuals when media and accompanying Tweet text are shared in the public interest or add value to public discourse.

The details of how these changes work are pretty simple in that there is no restriction in posting media. It requires that the person depicted or a representative to report the post. The blog post from Twitter outlines that these changes are intended to assist in curbing harassment online.

Whether it is at home, your workplace, school or online: Everyone has the right to feel safe and free from harassing behaviour. Twitter is doing their bit to look after its users online.

I suggest you have got a touch over excited there with your headline. A read of the details shows that this is really not much of a policy at all, is likely to achieve much at all and is so full of outs they could market it as swiss cheese.
