Great news for those of you who want to have more control over who can see your status on WhatsApp. The Meta-owned company is rolling out new privacy controls.

This is an extension of the previous changes allowing you to hide your online status from certain contacts. Now users will be able to select on a contact-by-contact basis, whether they can see your profile picture, bio and online status.

Adjust your privacy settings to control who sees your information. You can set your last seen, profile photo, about, or status to the following options:

  • Everyone: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to all WhatsApp users.
My Contacts: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book only.
  • My Contacts Exceptโ€ฆ: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book, except those you exclude.
  • Nobody: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status won’t be available to anyone.

To access the new settings simply go to the app settings –> account –> privacy to adjust the settings holistically, or for individual contacts. While this is a great step forward for WhatsApp in terms of privacy, it’s still behind some competitors.
