We call get those annoying text messages telling us our banking details have been compromised or a package is on the way. The problem is that, despite some of the obvious flags, there are some users who don’t see the signs.

For anyone who falls victim to these, there is a high chance of identitiy theft, financial loss or both.

Telstra has taken up the challenge to block a large percentage of these messages at a network level, before they even reach users devices. The new system has been implemented today, is on by default and requires users to do nothing to activate it. It is expected that the system will block up to 100 Million malicious messages across the Telstra network each month.

The even better news is that, as this is a network level block (before the reseller integration) the system will also protect the MNVOs on Telstra’s network.
