There are a lot of factors involved in the delays for customers wanting and needing HFC connections. This includes Shortages of modems coupled with service reliability woes. The collective issues led to a rethink about upgrading all connections.

What about users who need a connection in the short term?

While orders resumed as of May, this was for reconnecting and vulnerable customers only. For those who’ve waited long enough already the good news is: NTDs are back in stock and NBN Co. will be taking new HFC orders from July 26th.

Chief Customer Officer for NBN Co, Brad Whitcomb said:

We are pleased to confirm that we have acquired sufficient stocks of HFC modems and resolved a number of issues that have impacted the availability of field technicians, which will enable us to recommence taking new orders to connect premises to the network via HFC technology.

The connection schedule is said to be prioritised by wait time, with customer connection appointments beginning at the end of July. It’s a very difficult situation for users who have been waiting such a long time for Internet connectivity, now there is light at the end of that dark, disconnected tunnel that doesn’t seem to be the 8 O’clock express.

i’ve managed to order a new HFC connection from AussieBroadband 3 weeks ago and there was an appointment available within one week.

On the sign up process, it was telling me that the HFC wasn’t available but once I submitted the order, I was able to book an appointment within a week.

Maybe worth to sign up and check with your provider if they can book an appointment for you.
