Update: Update well and truly confirmed by every man and his dog. Cheers guys, have fun 🙂

We’ve heard from a few people that they have received Android 2.1 on their Xperia X10s purchased from Optus. We haven’t received any confirmation of this from Optus, though if you’ve received the update and you purchased your Xperia X10 from Optus we’d love to hear from you in the comments.

If you purchased your device from MobiCity, your Android 2.1 update is already out. Checking for the update via the settings menu may work, or you can download SE’s PC Update Tool and try that way.

Called SE today.

They said that they don’t know which X10 mini’s have been upgraded and they don’t know which ones are next. They also don’t know when the rollout will be completed

They do know that there is a department in SE that is responsible for the rollout but they don’t know how to contact them. They don’t even know which country it’s in.

Hmmm

My Optus x10 mini still hasn’t received any message about upgrading.

The PC companion says that 1.6 is up to date and doesn’t offer an upgrade.

Is there something extra I need to do?

Cougar

My X10 got updated to 2.1 yesterday, after using for all afternoon, Ive gone back to 1.6 as I prefer to use 1.6. Did not think much of 2.1 other than the HD video.

James

I’m still waiting to update my x10 to 2.1 from optus

Has anyone got update from SE PC Companion with Optus stuff in it

I checked my se pc companion daily and they are still saying my software is up today

Thank you

James

I got my phone updated two days ago and so far so good and it is much much better than the 1.6

Now I can use Skype heheheheh

Chris

Not sure if this is just applicable to Optus but you can update the x10 via the PC companion provided by Sony. Just connect to a PC and install the Sony software to get the update.

Oh by the way I meant a lot of people have flashed there phones – not bricked them 🙂

Glenn

chairXhat the battery life is much better on 2.1, been using Nordic 2.1 update (via tweek on xda) had very minimal probs and have stopped using a task killer. Was easy to flash to Nordic to get update, little bit (but not much 15 min work I think) to get phone to accept flash from Optus today (just in case have to return) – im giving my wife this phone & upgrading to something else – not sayin what, as Ill get flamed 🙂 Seriously should never have to wait so long as this to get update & Optus only… Read more »

yeah I’m thinking about going the Nordic flash route. is there a way to make a back up of the stock ROM so I can revert back to the Vodafone branded version once its out?

Ive tried looking around but had no luck finding anything.

Actually I think I stumbled upon a way to flash everything to the SD card but I couldn’t find that page again. The XDA site is a hard place to navigate for newbies.

Glenn

Are you with Optus as 2.1 is out now. Not with Optus than do this: If you have an x10a (check in settings, about phone) – have never used this method, but a lot have & it works http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793 If you have an x10i like mine – I did: Step 1 Used Bin4ry method to using Nordic Flashtool found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823115 Step 2 Open SEUS and update to Nordic 2.1 Never had an issue with this – had it for 3 weeks, but can use the method suggested by the thread I suggested for x10a & use Global one. Tried to put an Optus sim in and then test the software update but doesn’t work (non Optus X10) 🙂

Moody x10

Chewedon, swapping out the sim card will not work, controls on what version of firmware you can use are locked down in the x10s’ system file.
See Glenn’s comments re tweek via XDA and i agree that 2.1 is a big improvement on 1.6.

not too much longer XDA devs will release 2.2 … wonder if SE will even bother with an official 2.2 release.
SE claims that MT will be released in Q1 2011.. so Aus will not see it till Q3 2011??

pretty sure us Vodafone x10’ers wont get the update until Christmas 🙁 there was a tweet about it from Vodafone_AU or something. I read it on the xperia x10 blog.

ben

Don’t worry too much about it Optus tweeted to me it will be out by the end of the year and two days later here it is

chairXhat

really? that’s awesome news. I’m not too worried, I’m rather attached to my current setup. Ive managed to squeeze 3 days of battery life out of the phone using a APN manager, task killer and home++ as my home screen.

The only features I want to upgrade for are 720p, skype and the new unlock screen and even than it’s somewhat non-essential, nonetheless it would be nice to have sooner rather than later.

Matt

In the meantime Sony pretty much destroyed their reputation on Android. Great way to win market share.

Android 2.1 Confirmed got the update this morning and i have to say it is fantastic. The X10i is finally doing what it is capable of. Thank you Optus for taking ur sweet arse time but at long last it is here.

lol. Welcome to January 2010, Xperia x10! I swear google need to have some sort of policy that android manufacturers can only be a maximum of 2 months behind a current release of android, or they lose their licence to use android. Same should apply for carriers. Then the maximum wait would be 4 months. I think I’m still being a bit generous….i mean…4 MONTHS!!..but this would at least be a good start.
