The Xperia Play is no doubt one of the most hyped Android devices so far this year and it’ll start shipping from Optus on May 19th, but that’s ages away! So Sony Ericsson have set up four Xperia Plays at the brand new JB Hi-Fi store at Level 6, Westfield Pitt St Shopping Centre in the Sydney CBD, to make sure you can get to try before you buy (and read our review), or if you’ve already pre-ordered one you can go Play (see what I did there?) with one in the meantime. So I’ve gone to the store and played FIFA with one of these – it’s surprisingly decent. It feels lighter than it looks, the controls were rather decent but I found them a bit mushy; still a lot better than a touchscreen control for serious gaming. Running Android 2.3.2. The rest of the phone felt a bit slow though. I’d expected the screen to be more touch responsive and scrolling to be smoother.
