You may or may not have heard of a little-known device called the Samsung Galaxy S II. Well this 4.3″ Super AMOLED + device with a 1.2GHz Dual-core CPU has already racked up around 3 million pre-orders from carriers worldwide, which is quite the achievement for a device that only hit shelves last week in some countries. As for when it’ll hit Australia, who knows for certain but we’ve got our money on Optus and Telstra making announcements very soon or you could always jump over to MobiCity and pick one up now. Our review unit is expected to arrive this week whilst I am away in Sydney with Lucas & Chris at the Sony Ericsson event, so hopefully I’ll get my hands on it on Friday. To those who already do have it, let us know what you think in the comments.

Device is lightening fast, there really isn’t any noticeable performance lag when starting applications, playing games or performing other resource intensive tasks..
The screen is beautiful, very bright and nice colors.
Overall a very nice device, the only downside would be that the battery doesn’t last that long (although its battery lifetime is not bad and this is a problem for all smartphones)

Mine arrived on the 6th of May, so I’ve had it for just under a week now. So far, so amazing. Battery life seems to hold up pretty well for a phone with a screen of this size… but I’ve drained the battery by playing games all day, with various things syncing and multiple app installs etc… messing with maps and driving navigation. GPS works great. ’nuff said. The phone is light. Like, featherweight. To the point where it feels as though my front pocket is empty when it’s in there. No lag at all. I’ve been playing with mine for a couple of days now and highly recommend it. Screen is great, it’s speedy with no lagging, super slim, slightly longer battery. I understand where is coming from with his comment about the build it is lighter and thinner but that’s compared to phones built like bricks. I like this phone because it is light and doesn’t weigh my pocket down which is one of the many reasons I didn’t go for the iPhone. Had a play with one today from our Samsung rep. Looks sweet, feels really fragile though. It’s super thin and it just feels like it could snap! The Xperia Arc has a much better build quality IMHO. Screen is awesome though, UI is nice to look at and the touch sensitivity is right on, even better than the fabled iPhone. If I hadn’t seen and played with an Xperia Arc, I’d definitely get one. The dual core processor doesn’t seem to give it any advantage over the single core Arc though…Arc screen is ALMOST as good as Galaxy S II…surprising… Read more »
Hmm i am keen on thi phone but so many mixed reports on the net around about specs, im guessing since the Samsung site doesnt mention NFC this doesnt have it correct?
Even though Aus is still far away from really having any NFC support i kinda want it as i dont upgrade often. Last phone lasted 5 years.
Might have to go Nexus S instead.
Yeah I was a bit annoyed that it doesn’t have NFC but I purchased it anyway knowing that NFC services wont be around for at least a year anyway. By then I’ll probably want the quad core SGS3 🙂
Hmm this phone just took top spot on my to buy list. I though the lack of NFC was a bit of a turn off for me but now i read they are making NFC sd cards it makes my lack NFC thoughts moot.
I love how the Samsung employee has the fingers cut out of her gloves. Maybe she can sneak in a little game of angry birds while no-one is looking.
I absolutely love mine. I went from the first Galaxy S to it, and have to say it’s by far the best phone I’ve ever used. Amazingly quick and smooth, more so than WP7 and iOS (which is a feat since Android tends to be a bit less fluid on identical hardware than them). The screen is also a major upgrade, looking much much clearer than the first Galaxy S despite the same resolution at a larger size.
